The defensive wars are maybe the funniest part. Israel’s enemies keep ganging up to start wars, and losing spectacularly. And then randomly demanding the land back that they lost in their failed war. Huh?
Yeah. Wake me when we agree that Spain still owns Western Europe.]]>
They are not equals.
Israel is a sovereign state with an actual government, a functioning system of government (complete with checks and balances), a free press, an economy, etc. The Palestinians are a proto-state, and a failed one at that. They have no sovereignty, no functioning government… nada.
When the U.S. relates to Israel in the same way as they do the Palestinians, they are telegraphing a message to the entire world that Israel’s very existence is a question that can be opened up for negotiations. They are returning us to 1947 when we had to come before the world with our hat in our hands and pray that the partition plan (a tiny sliver of what we were promised under the British Mandate) would be approved by the U.N.
We don’t need anyone’s approval to build houses and apartment buildings in our own country. If someone thinks we might be building on ‘Palestinian Land’, I have the results of a bunch of defensive wars that says differently.
