You can say 63% is good until you’re blue in the face. This still pisses me off.

Advice?

Ok, Pratchett fans: If you were getting someone started, which Pratchett book would you tell them to read first? I read Good Omens first, and then Wyrd Sisters, personally.

I’m leaning toward Good Omens. Or Pyramids. Or Faust Eric or Interesting Times, maybe? Small Gods? I’ve only read 13 of his books so far, so I don’t know them all. I don’t particularly want to pick one of the really early ones, because his style hadn’t totally evolved, but there can’t be too many inside jokes either (i.e. Hogfather)…

Anyway, discuss. Please. And feel free to debate my selections, but if you give away any plotlines, I’ll delete your comment, so be careful.

From Day By Day, by Chris Muir, of course.

QUAGMIRE!!

Perhaps a few more

I’m reading this book by Philip K Dick, Eye in the Sky. I haven’t been that knocked out by his books in the past — I know, I know, he’s a master, whatever — anyway, I’m really enjoying this one.

I’m only about fifty pages into it, but I just got to the twist. I really like the premise, which is something that comes up in deep philosophical beer-doused 2am conversations in college fairly regularly, but carried to the most extreme degree. But mostly I’m blown away by the un-PCism. I can’t believe this thing was written in 1957. Parts of it are even making me cringe… if it was written today, he’d already be introducing himself to Theo Van Gogh.

A Friday Meme

Imagine you are a raisin.

Ok.

Do you realize, now, how pointless it is to imagine that you are a raisin?

That is forbidden knowledge!

Could you be quiet? I’m concentrating on being a raisin.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Is there any way we can end this?

…Shhhhhh.

Never!

Today’s license plate of the morning is:

PYRATE

on a dark teal mini-truck with a matching camper shell, a bumper sticker that said “got ink?” and a dreamcatcher hanging from the rear view mirror. Discuss.

(Not my first thought, but it did occur to me that it also breaks Steve H’s new rule.)

Geek Love Poem

Outstanding.

Idol Prediction

The goth guy that did the Tom Jones and Elvis? He’s totally getting a record deal out of it.

KUN LNG

on a Toyota Rav-4. Like many of these, there could be multiple interpretations, and it’s entirely possible that this is legitimately someone’s given name, but…. Nah.
