What, again?

Protestors are demanding that the US get involved in Darfur, and stop the horrible acts of violence and genocide that are happening there. (A proposal with which I agree, by the way…)

Countdown til these same protestors call us “occupiers” in Sudan? Wagers?

Ah’m comin’ to join ya’, ‘Lizabeth!

Oh my. Oh dear. Angelina Jolie to play Dagny Taggart?

I need. A moment.

His appointed rounds

David’s 3rd topic reminded me of something that happened lately. (I’m assuming that it’s the same neighbor I’m thinking of…)

I have these little tiny bees. They’re called grasscutter bees. They’re white with no visible stripes and less than a centimeter long. They apparently live in the ground during the winter, because they come out of little holes all over my yard in the spring, hang out for a day or two, and then fly away to bee parts unknown. There’s usually one day, maybe two, when there’s kind of a lot of them, and then they’re basically gone, except for a few stragglers.

Admittedly, they freaked me out a little the first day I saw them, two years ago, but they seem to be utterly non-aggressive. Now I walk thru them, even mow the lawn around them, and I kind of think of them as a harbinger of spring.

Anyway. I didn’t get any mail for over a week, and I couldn’t figure out why. Then it was Easter, so I thought I had miscounted the days. (Good thing I don’t get any bills. Oh wait.)

Finally, I got a huge bundle of letters, ads, and two packages, jammed inside my storm door. Every single piece of mail had “Animal danger - Bees all over yard” written on it. They had been gone for at least five days.

So much for “sleet or snow or dark of night” huh? Wuss.

That’ll work.

I’ve joked about getting a Toyota Prius and slapping “Peace Through Superior Firepower” and Dubya stickers all over the back. Lots of us have. (Like democrats have a monopoly on hating high gas prices?) But I saw a Prius on the road this weekend with one of these babies on the back:

And I think that says a lot more than I could.

Damn those carbs.

SI.com - Australian cheerleaders told to cover up midriffs

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Australian cheerleaders have been banned from baring midriffs by officials of the sport who fear displays of skin may encourage eating disorders.

Excellent. Sharp thinking. Let’s demonize the healthy thin girls, who exercise and have muscles and curves - and put Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie and the other stick figure lollipop heads on the cover of every magazine on the planet. That’ll get rid of those nasty eating disorders.

Travel Meme

Travel geeks, this is kind of a cool quiz, because the choices are really slim… (I’m only counting places I’ve been on my own, not places I went/lived with my parents, as a child. But that’s not a rule.)
